Fall Retreat in Mid-Coast Maine

Join us as we head north to beautiful Mid-Coast Maine for our annual fall retreat.

Our venue is Limina Renewal Center, an elegant house set on 15 acres of land directly on the ocean, with stunning views from the common spaces and many bedrooms. Limina is located between Searsport and Belfast, two small, coastal towns at the head of Penobscot Bay. Our group will have exclusive use of the house and grounds during the retreat.

The mid-coast region of Maine has all the ingredients for a peaceful yoga retreat and getaway, and early October is the ideal time to visit. The low light of autumn, stunning mountain and ocean views, and the rustic charm of the area have drawn artists to this region for years. Searsport and nearby Belfast are quaint towns with antique shops, art galleries and cafes.

Included in the retreat price are three morning and three afternoon yoga sessions, three meals each day with a special dinner on Sunday evening, and beverages and snacks available throughout your stay. A gratuity for Limina staff is included. Our yoga practice will be  in a dedicated yoga studio on the lower level of the house. A sauna and a fitness room are open for use throughout your stay. Massage and Reiki treatments are available for an additional fee.

There are eight bedrooms. Skye Suite has an en suite bath. All other rooms share bathrooms, which are large and elegantly appointed. Two of the bedrooms are extra spacious and can easily accommodate up to three guests with an added moveable twin bed. Please ask Liz if you are interested in triple occupancy prices.

There are spaces in the large, light-filled house to enjoy quiet solitude or to share conversation and activities with friends. Between classes and meals, there will be time to enjoy walking on the Limina grounds and to explore the local area.

Belfast is three miles away, with a scenic lighthouse park and a popular rail trail for walking and biking, and there are nature preserves and state parks a short drive from the venue. There is a small beachfront area on the property if you want to bring your kayak.

THINGS TO KNOW:

  • Our retreat includes three nights and four days. Limina is about 3.5 hours driving time from the Boston area.
  • Limina opens its door for check-in at 3pm on Friday. If you arrive earlier than 3pm, plan to explore Belfast and Searsport.
  • Our first yoga session is Friday from 4:30-5:30pm, and our last session is Monday from 7:30-9am.
  • Yoga props are provided. Feel free to bring your own mat, if you prefer, and personal props such as eye pillows.
  • Coffee, tea, and light snacks are available before our morning yoga practice, from 7:30-9am. Breakfast follows from 9-10am, and lunch is served at 12:30pm. There is free time between meals and before afternoon yoga, from 4:30-5:30pm on Saturday and Sunday. A bag lunch is available if you would like to take a longer day trip between breakfast and our afternoon yoga session.
  • We will eat dinner together each evening at 6:30pm at Limina, served buffet style. On Sunday evening, we’ll enjoy a special group dinner with your choice of surf & turf or vegetarian entree.
  • We will enjoy a bonfire at Limina either Saturday or Sunday evening, weather permitting.
  • Our final meal will be brunch on Monday from 9-10am. Checkout is at 1pm.

COMMUTERS – For those who live nearby or care to attend the retreat but stay offsite, a commuter rate for all four days is available. This gives full access to Limina grounds and amenities, all meals, snacks, bonfire, and yoga sessions – everything but a bedroom. Relax with us in the living areas and on the deck with beautiful ocean views before, between and after yoga sessions and meals. There are motels and Airbnb lodgings with affordable rates close to Limina.

DEPOSIT AND PAYMENT

All Prices are per person
Hold your place with a non-refundable $300 deposit or with payment in full. Final non-refundable payment is due by August 25, 2026.
Registration is by Zelle (lizowen@comcast.net) or Venmo (@Liz-Owen-11). If you choose to pay with a check mailed through the U.S. Postal Service, please take your payment to a post office and send it with tracking.

All deposits and final payments are non-refundable. Travel insurance is strongly recommended to protect your investment.

Yucatan Yoga Retreat, Isla Holbox, Mexico

We are returning to our beloved Isla Holbox for our special winter retreat in 2027!

Relax, unwind, and practice yoga on the pristine north coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. Holbox is separated from the mainland coast of Mexico by a shallow lagoon which gives sanctuary to thousands of flamingos, pelicans and other exotic birds. The island, part of the Yum Balam Biosphere Reserve, is surrounded by clear, emerald green water rimmed by magnificent white sand beaches. Colorful murals painted by artists with the International Public Artist Festival brighten the small town center, accessible from our hotel by a 20-minute walk along the beach or a quick taxi ride. Holbox has recently received positive press because of its untouched beauty and its contrast to popular Yucatan peninsula destinations such as Tulum, Cancun and Playa del Carmen.

The venue for our yoga retreat is Villas Flamingos, a boutique hotel whose waterfront location, directly on the Yum Balam Reserve lagoon, makes it a unique destination. Our twice daily yoga sessions will be held in an onsite third floor aerie, where we will practice with views of the ocean laid out before our eyes. Between classes there will be time to cool down in the oceanfront pool, walk along the beach to town to shop or enjoy a meal; paddleboard in the pristine waters, go for a kayak tour, bike around the island, or simply surrender to the slow rhythm of island life by doing “nothing”.

We will also be treated to a Sensory Sound Healing experience. Sound waves are invoked with various sacred instruments such as singing bowls, gongs, chimes, and tuning forks. All are used to create a harmonic environment for the body to nurture itself, along with essential scents that will unburden the mind and body. This sound bath offers a transformative experience to bring you into a meditative state of relaxation. You will leave feeling refreshed, balanced, and centered.

This is an all-levels retreat, appropriate for anyone with 1+ year of yoga experience. Four morning yoga sessions and five afternoon restorative yoga/breath work sessions will be offered.

 

THE WEEK INCLUDES:

  • Seven days/six nights in a standard ocean view room, garden bungalow, or ocean view bungalow. Room upgrades may be available at an extra charge.
  • Breakfast each morning in the open-air beach front restaurant with egg dishes of your choice, fruit, yogurt, cereals, breads, delicious Yucatan specialties, fresh juices, tea and coffee.
  • Welcome reception on Saturday evening 2/27. Please plan to arrive on Holbox by 6pm so that you can join in.
  • One group dinner at at Villas Flamingos and one group dinner at Mandarina, an elegant beachfront restaurant. Both are open-air venues.
  • Four morning yoga sessions and five afternoon restorative yoga and breath work sessions.
  • Arrival is on Saturday 2/27 and departure is on Friday 3/5. There are no yoga sessions on these travel days. Yoga sessions begin on Sunday 2/28 and end on Thursday 3/4.
  • Mid-week Sound Healing session.
  • Retreat prices are per person and do not include travel costs.

Please join us for our 2025 winter retreat in Roatán, a Caribbean island known for its aquamarine waters, abundant sunshine, and world famous snorkeling and diving. Roatán is the largest of the Islas de la Bahía (Bay Islands), forty miles off the northern coast of Honduras.

Our venue for the retreat is Xbalanque Resort, a waterfront boutique resort which features a private beach, two yoga shalas (one waterfront and one garden), an infinity pool, beautifully landscaped gardens and art-filled interiors. The layout of the gardens, suites, pools, yoga shalas and restaurant are designed to inspire a tranquil experience for guests.

The resort offers unique and beautiful accommodations. All rooms have private baths and access to a balcony or deck. The owner has taken pride in decorating the rooms and common areas in ways that reflect the natural world with a cool, Caribbean aesthetic.

Resort amenities include kayaks and paddle boards, a spa offering massage, facials and body treatments, a small fitness room, and nature trails within the eight-acre property.

Lotus, the resort’s waterfront five-star restaurant, offers locally sourced seafood and what is described as Caribbean fusion cuisine. You can take in the beautiful sunsets while enjoying a cocktail at the open-air Buddha Bar.

A short water taxi ride or walk along the beach will take you to the lively village of West End, where there are plentiful shops and restaurants to explore. In addition to the spectacular snorkeling and diving that Roatán is known for, there are opportunities to take a canopy zip line tour, visit (and hold!) sloths at a local animal refuge, take a horseback ride through the island’s lush jungles and pristine beaches, or golf at an 18-hole course. An optional snorkeling trip on the resort’s boat with a guide to help you explore the nearby Roatán Barrier Reef will be offered during the retreat. Upon registering for the retreat, be sure to include the additional cost noted for the excursion if you are interested.

 

THE WEEK INCLUDES:

  • Three morning asana and four afternoon restorative yoga and breathwork classes, 9 hours total.
  • King, queen and double twin bed accommodations in XBalanque Suite Del Mar, Heliconia Villa, and Element Lofts/Suites. Upgrades to Xbalanque Suites are available at extra cost.
  • Five breakfasts and two group dinners at Lotus restaurant.

Winter Yoga Retreat in Southern Belize

If you are thinking about an exotic location for your next (or first!) yoga retreat, please consider joining us in beautiful Belize. Late January is the perfect time to escape the cold of midwinter and practice yoga in a pristine jungle setting in Southern Belize.

The venue for our five-night, six-day retreat is the Copal Tree Lodge, an agritourism resort near Punta Gorda. The Lodge is surrounded by a 12,000 acre rainforest preserve set above the Caribbean coast.

Copal Tree Lodge sits close to a river that was once a Mayan pathway to the Caribbean Sea. The bio-diverse setting embraces the lush resources of the jungle while combining luxurious accommodations and locally sourced food.

Morning and afternoon yoga practices will take place in an open air palapa overlooking the jungle canopy.

During our stay, we will have the opportunity to explore nearby Mayan ruins, hike along the trails of the resort property, view the many species of birds and animals that thrive in this complex eco system, relax by the pool, kayak on the river, visit the on-site rum distillery, or simply relax in a hammock. Mid-week, we will enjoy a half-day snorkeling trip along the southern tip of the reef that runs along the coast of Belize.

THE WEEK INCLUDES:

  • Four morning asana and three afternoon restorative yoga and breathwork classes, 9 hours total.
  • King and double queen Jungle Suite accommodations.
  • Three chef prepared meals per day.

Fall Retreat on Block Island 2023

Enjoy the beautiful New England fall season in the quiet beauty of Block Island, Rhode Island with a three-day yoga retreat. The retreat will include two nights at Dodge Cottage or Anchor House, part of the 1661 Inn. You’ll enjoy two morning and two afternoon yoga sessions, two champagne breakfasts, one dinner at the Spring House Restaurant, and two “wine & nibbles” hours. The Nature Conservancy named Block Island “One of the Last Great Places”. You’ll have plenty of time between yoga sessions to walk, hike or bike around the island and experience its natural beauty, shop in the quaint town center, or just relax at the hotel’s beautifully landscaped grounds overlooking Block Island Sound.

We recommend getting to Block Island by ferry from Point Judith. The 1661 Inn is in the town center, just a short walk from the ferry terminal. Yoga sessions are held on the open deck of the Farm House in good weather, or in Harbor Church. All venues are a short walk from the Inn. You don’t need a car on the island, but if you’d like to bring one, please be sure to make advance reservations with both the ferry company and the 1661 Inn.

The Farm House is included to offer upgraded guest rooms and a gathering space for the group. This beautiful home, with full living and dining rooms, kitchen, three bedrooms and large deck, overlooks Abrams Farm and offers beautiful views of Block Island Sound. All participants are welcome to enjoy this venue between yoga sessions to take in the views, relax, and enjoy each other’s company.

 


THINGS TO KNOW:

        • Plan to come early on arrival day and leave late on departure day to enjoy all that Block Island has to offer.
        • Standard rooms are in Dodge Cottage and Anchor House.
        • There are two basic economy rooms offered in Dodge Cottage.
        • All basic economy and standard rooms have one queen bed and private baths with showers.
        • Upgraded rooms are located in the Farm House, a 5-minute walk to the 1661 Inn. A Master Suite on the first floor has a king bed, sleeper sofa, and private bathroom with shower and jacuzzi tub. There are two bedrooms on the second floor which share a 60’s style retro bathroom. Bedroom 2 has a queen bed and sleeper sofa, and Bedroom 3 has two twin beds that can be converted to a king bed. There is an additional, renovated ½ bath on the first floor.
        • Other upgraded rooms (in Dodge Cottage and Anchor House) are available upon request.
        • Guest rooms are usually ready for occupancy by 2:00 p.m. A place is available for your luggage should you arrive earlier in the day, or when you check out by 11:00 a.m. If you’d like to extend your stay, please make arrangements with the 1661 Inn.
        • Our first yoga session is on arrival day at 3:00pm.
        • Our closing yoga session is morning of departure day, with brunch afterwards.
        • Bicycle and moped rentals are available in the town center.

Join us for a GRAND FINALE TRIP to Isla Holbox!

Relax, unwind, and practice yoga on the calm and peaceful island of Holbox, a virgin tourist destination on the north coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. Holbox is separated from the mainland coast of Mexico by a shallow lagoon which gives sanctuary to thousands of flamingos, pelicans and other exotic birds. The island, part of the Yum Balam Biosphere Reserve, is surrounded by clear, emerald green water rimmed by magnificent white sand beaches. Colorful murals painted by artists with the International Public Artist Festival brighten the small town center, accessible from our hotel by a 20-minute walk along the beach or a quick taxi ride. Holbox has recently received positive press because of its untouched beauty and its contrast to popular Yucatan peninsula destinations such as Tulum, Cancun and Playa del Carmen.

The venue for our yoga retreat is Villas Flamingos, a boutique hotel whose waterfront location, directly on the sparkling waters of the Yum Balam Reserve lagoon, make it a unique destination. Our twice daily yoga sessions will be held in a thatched-roof palapa at Casa Hridaya, just a short walk from Villas Flamingos. In our third floor aerie, we practice with views of the ocean laid out before our eyes. Between classes there will be time to cool down in the seafront pool, walk along the beach to town, paddleboard in the pristine waters, go for a kayak tour, bike around the island, or simply surrender to the slow rhythm of island life by doing “nothing”.

This is an all-levels retreat, appropriate for anyone with 1+ year of yoga experience. Four morning yoga sessions and four afternoon restorative yoga and breath work sessions will be offered.

THE WEEK INCLUDES:

  • Seven days/six nights in a standard ocean view room, garden bungalow, or ocean view bungalow. Room upgrades are available at an extra charge.
  • Breakfast each morning in the open air beach front restaurant with egg dishes of your choice, fruit, yogurt, cereals, breads, delicious Yucatan specialties, fresh juices, tea and coffee.
  • Welcome reception on Friday evening 3/24. Please plan to arrive on Holbox by 6pm so that you can join in.

We thought the NaBalam Hotel was tastefully appointed, lovely, quiet, and accommodating. Its attractive rooms, with their white stucco walls and simple built-ins, have almost a Southwestern feel to them. Comfortable beds, AC as well as a ceiling fan, and plenty of hot water for showers all were the norm. We enjoyed walking into the main town, just a short walk away. The staff at the front desk was very helpful, and Judy was instrumental in steering us to restaurants and places of interest when we wished to explore the island during our free time.

Classes were well-spaced during the day, so we had yoga, quietude, and ample time to  ourselves. The classes themselves were SUPERLATIVE. The Liz Owen Yoga Retreat at NaBalam was an experience I cherish. The location was warm, beautiful and relaxed. Liz Owen’s yoga retreat on Isla Mujeres is magical. Sandy beaches, warm water and a beautiful palapa. But perhaps the most magical part is Liz herself. Liz has a way of accommodating everyone, respecting where one is in their practice while encouraging one to try stretching a little more. I experienced a couple firsts, like my first supported headstand and my first time snorkeling. I have been on the retreat twice now and each time the group was full of interesting and friendly people adding to the overall experience.
